Years ago I used to work at the Vodafone Service Centre here in Perth and the one thing that all of our customers wished they had used for their mobile device was a case, this was always after they had dropped their device, I was lucky enough to receive a STM Dux Case, with my other review unit the STM 13" Linear Laptop Shoulder Bag

Review Unit Arrived

Was so lucky this time as STM is an Australian based company so finally able to review a local product. I was originally just going to review the STM Linear 13" Laptop Shoulder Bag, however was also sent the STM Dux case for my Surface Pro 3, hence this review.

Installing the STM Dux Case

Here is a video done by STM showing how to install the Dux case on the Surface Pro 3.

First Impressions

For those that own the Surface Pro 3 know that the device is light weight for a 12" Laptop/Tablet and adding a case to the mix can take it from a hand carry to a backpack carry in an instant, so finding a light case is essential for some, I found that the STM Dux case is in fact pretty light weight as most of the protection is around the side and corners with a nice clear plastic section on the back at the top.

Here is a video of my First Impressions of the Dux case, hope you enjoy it and it gives you a better insight to the case and if it would suit your needs.

Main Points of the Dux Case

For those that want to know if the Dux case gives good protection then have a look at this cringe worthy video of them dropping the case.

The Dux case wraps around the back of the Surface Pro 3 giving protection around the sides with more emphasise on the corners were you are more likely to hit when dropped.

The case wraps half way down the back of the Surface Pro 3 up to the hinge of the Kickstand

All the side ports are open giving full access to all the ports from the Magnetic charger port to the USB Port.

The same is for the other side with the Volume button being protected and the Headphone jack port is also open.

The Camera is surrounded with a hard clear plastic giving more protection

I liked the STM Dux case, and found it to be a good light weight case that would look good in a boardroom, lecture theatre or out and about at the Library or Café. The only thing that I found that is that the bottom back of the case is open and that the kickstand is open to the elements some might find this a concern but if used with the STM Linear bag that would negate any issues that the consumer might have. Check out STM’s Website for more details and where you can buy one for yourself.

My Conclusion

With the Dux case the bottom section on the back of the case is open so that you can use the built in kickstand of the Surface Pro 3, at the bottom of the case there is a metal bar this gives extra strength to the case and keeps it rigid.
